Obtain good driveshaft material, drill the hole for the roll pin in the stock location. Fit new driveshaft.

Will a flywheel add horsepower?
Flywheels are like money in the bank; you can't take out what your haven't put in! A flywheel is essentially a storage device. On larger displacement engines, lighter flywheels (10-14 lbs.) tend to work well mostly because they are easier on the long stroke cranks. Less stress is introduced to the end of the crank when less mass needs to be "brought up to speed." In stock classes a heavier wheel (18-22 lbs.) is typically suitable mostly because the engine is not required to be as throttle responsive, meaning that the time required for the engine to go from idle to full throttle and back to idle is of no consequence. NOTE: Do not be fooled by false dynomometer readings of flywheel induced "spin down". We've heard many reports of people dynoing engines by winding the engine up to "X" RPM and then throwing the dyno brake to the engine. With all the inertia built into the flywheel and the engine pulling down in RPM, false HP readings can be obtained. We dyno from the "bottom up", always working against the flywheel and adding energy to the wheel as we add water brake. This gives us an accurate, conservative, and repeatable, HP and torque reading.

What ignition coil should I use?
Bosch Blue is the best coil that we have found for our application. It has an extremely hot spark.

What fuel pump should I use?
We have had excellent results from the Holley Blue Pump. Available through many local speed shops or Summit Racing Catalog.

Is an intake air filter really worth the money?
Yes! Since we began using K&N airfilters, our engines hold a much better cylinder wall seal and for a much longer time. They keep the engine a lot cleaner and stablize the air entering the carburator. Have a filter large enough for your application is essential. Many people do not realize how large a filter for these flat-heads needs to be in order to not restrict airflow. A few CFM airflow restriction can cost valuable high-end horsepower.

Should I pop my piston out of the top of the cylinder?
Yes. Increasing rod length from that of stock will benefit you in Stock Classes.

When do I need to buy a billet steel flywheel?
In any application in which your engine is turning over 4000 RPM, you MUST abandon the stock Kohler flywheel and use an aftermarket steel replacement. The stock cast wheel has been known to self destruct above 4000 RPM and destroy tractors and people. It is extremely dangerous. We do not suggest any altering of stock flywheels either. Stress cracks can occur and make the stock wheel extremely unpredictable.

Do Vogel Manufacturing aluminum connecting rods have "bearing locks"?
No. Simply put, if your conn rod requires a bearing lock mechanism IN ADDITION to the rod bearing tangs which should hold the bearing halves in place in the rod, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.
